Came to the park after a week with my mom in Greensboro, NC. Two years after finishing the A.T. and being in the best shape of my life, I am now probably in the worse shape of my life. Been ill multiple times since January (flu, possible pneumonia, resparatory issues, back issues and even a trip to the ER with cardiac like symptoms (but not a heart attack...thank G-d)). Going to do some hiking and swimming to see if I can start getting in better shape, but I know I will not be able to do the full Montgomery Bell Loop like I did two years ago when I visited the park the last time.
Great time to come to the park, other than a few meetings, so the place is mostly empty. Of course it is mid week and after most kids have gone back to school in the state. Only downfall is that some of the facilities are now only opened on weekends (no boat rentals and no lake swimming), but I am here to hike and swim.
It is still getting into the low 90s in the late afternoon...so i hike in the morning after breakfast , swim when I return, nap mid afternoon, then hang out until dinner.
Key:
Purple - Aug 15 Hike (Spillway Trail +)
Blue - Aug 16 Hike (Ore Pit Trail +)
Aug 15,2018
Spillway Trail +
Total Milage Aprox 2.36 Miles
My suspicions about being in the worse shape of my life was verified......I am bushed after 2+ miles.
Hiked from the Warehouse Trailhead to Spillway Trail and then on to almost the southern end of Lake Woodhaven, where I saw a deer while at the same time loosing the trail then turning around.

Ore Pit Trail +
Total Milage Aprox 4.55 Miles
Hiked from the Warehouse Trailhead and did the full Ore Pit Loop (with a quick side trip to the chapel). Got back to the trailhead and decided to hike the Montgommer Bell Trail to the park office and then back to the car (just as it started to rain). Good hike, but again it proves I am way out of shape!
