Food and Mail Drops 2016

Here is a side by side comparison of my mail drop from my 2010 hike to my 2016 hike. I am also doing fewer drops this hike (partly because of the time I have to prepare them, and partly because I did not use all my mail drops last time).

If the right side is blank, I decided not to take the item.

Most other changes were due to availablity, although a few (like the samon) were replaced since I did not enjoy them on the last hike, or they were constantly the last things I ate (indicating I really did not like the meal that much).

After Hike Reflections:

I only did mail drops at Glencliff NH (bumped to Lincoln NH), Gorham NH and Monson ME, the rest of the time I resupplied locally. This worked out well for the most part and helped me avoid getting tired of the same things all the time while ensuring I had a good resupply at questionable locations. Did find the Asian Sides (BBQ and Teriyaki) were my least favorite of the dinners due to their overwelming flavor. Aldo, I had to suppliment Breakfast and lunch with added cliff bars. I definielty enjoyed the Beef Summer Sausage in the resupplies and also added cheese when I could (prefered small individual sized packages of cheddar for this and they kept well for a number of days). Still wish they made a smaller size pouch of chicken (7 oz just a bit too big for one meal).

One last note, the guide said that Abol Bridge was a good place for long term resupply. BULL! VERY EXPENSIVE and not the greatest slection. It cost me $29 to resupply for the 15.1 miles to finish! That is just plan price gouging! If I was a southbounder I would NOT resupply here but start at Baxter with enough food to get me though the wilderness and not stop to resupply at Abol Bridge.
